It's only fair to share…

There is no denying that we are experiencing a global obesity epidemic. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 34% of the adult population is considered obese, 34% are considered overweight, and 16.9% of children and adolescence aged 2-19 years are obese. That means approximately 64% of the U.S. adult population is overweight.

Obesity is a risk factor for a variety of chronic conditions including diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, stroke, heart disease, certain cancers, and arthritis.Higher grades of obesity are associated with excess mortality, primarily from cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and certain cancers.

Statistics show that not only has obesity become an epidemic among adults and children, but that children are now also showing early signs of cardiovascular problems.  Among these are high blood pressure, weight gain, high cholesterol, and inactivity. These statistics are extremely disturbing to me. We have become an extremely unhealthy society.

The good news is that lifestyle related diseases, such as the ones above, are highly preventable. It’s time to take action and take control of your health and live the life that you deserve to live. The Weekly Fitness Challenge Team has joined together to help you, your family, and your friends, do exactly that.

I am personally honored to be a member of this amazing team of experts. My mission as the International Director of Fitness for the Weekly Fitness Challenge is to educate, motivate, inspire, and support everyone involved in the challenge to take the necessary steps and make the necessary lifestyle changes towards living a healthier lifestyle. The fit life you deserve to live!

It’s time to start taking responsibility for your actions. No more excuses! Start being honest with yourself. Whose fault is it that you’re out of shape? Sure, you have obstacles that get in your way – your schedule, your job, your kids, the weather, your knee injury from college…but ultimately you have the body that you accept. It’s time to accept nothing less than the body you deserve – and that is a healthy one!

Parents – becoming a role model for your children by practicing good heart-healthy habits is essential not just for you as an adult, but for your children as well. Changing your lifestyle does not need to be overwhelming or scary. Embrace simple, small changes over time that will add up to big improvements in your lifestyle.

Exercise is a huge component to a healthy lifestyle, and quite frankly if you are overweight, you’re not getting enough of it. How often does an entire week go by without you ever lacing up your tennis shoes? Your new healthy lifestyle means exercising on most days of the week and I am here to educate and show you exactly how to do that – and how to make it fun!

In the end, your lifestyle is the balance of all the choices that you make regarding your body. Swing the balance in your favor – make a majority of your choices health conscious.
